Mobile and VR Updates: Touch Controls and Meta Quest Optimization

Track Dino Hunters Mobile and VR updates. Touch UI refinements, Meta Quest optimization, aim assist calibration, and the open issues being patched next.

Dino Hunters runs natively on iOS, Android, and Meta Quest VR through the Roblox client. The Mobile and VR experience targets the same content as PC and Xbox, but the controls and the HUD need platform-specific tuning. Build v1.2.0 shipped four Mobile improvements and three VR improvements, with the most visible being the new touch UI for the capture tool overlay. This article is the Mobile and VR-specific update tracker, covering what changed in Build v1.2.0, the open issues, and the upcoming platform parity updates.

Mobile Platform Snapshot

PlatformStatusBuild TargetResolution
iOS (iPhone 12+)Active60 FPS targetNative
iOS (iPhone 11)Active30 FPS lockFrame skip
Android (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+)Active60 FPS targetNative
Android (older flagships)Active30 FPS lockFrame skip
Android (low-end)Reduced25 FPS lockReduced effects

The 30 FPS lock on older flagships is a Battery Saver behavior that the Roblox client enforces by default. Players can disable Battery Saver from the Roblox Settings panel to force a 60 FPS target, at the cost of device thermals.

Meta Quest 3Active90 FPSHand tracking beta

PlayStation VR2InactiveNot supportedRoblox does not ship PSVR2 build

VR support in Dino Hunters is first-person only, with the capture tool rendered as a hand-mounted device. The Meta Quest 3 hand tracking beta is the first time the Roblox client has supported native hand gestures for capture tool interactions.

Build v1.2.0 — Mobile Improvements

ImprovementImpactNotes
Capture tool UI overlayLive capture threshold gaugeNew feature, see Latest Update Overview
Touch aim assist calibration+30% hit rate on small dinosCrosshair slowdown near Common prey
Volcanic zone heat indicatorNew HUD elementShows safe zones and lava rivers
Frame drop fix on eruption cycleStable 60 FPS on supported devicesMemory leak patched

The touch aim assist calibration is the most impactful Mobile improvement in Build v1.2.0. The previous aim assist was too generous on Apex dinos (snapping too early) and too lenient on Common prey (no slowdown until close range). The new calibration gives a tight slowdown only when the crosshair is near a Common prey target.

Build v1.2.0 — VR Improvements

ImprovementImpactNotes
Hand tracking for capture toolNative gesture supportMeta Quest 3 only
Reduced motion sickness modeOptional comfort settingTunable per player
Volcanic zone heat indicatorNew HUD elementPulled forward from Mobile

The reduced motion sickness mode is the most important VR improvement. It defaults to off (to preserve the full visual experience) but can be toggled in the Settings panel. When enabled, the camera FOV is locked and the camera shake during dino attacks is reduced.

Open Mobile Issues

The four open Mobile issues as of July 2026 are:

  1. iOS capture tool overlay flicker — Roblox client 2.648+ only
  2. Android frame drop during eruption cycle — affects Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and earlier
  3. Touch aim assist false positives — sometimes snaps to allied dino team members
  4. Battery drain on Roblox client idle — Battery Saver doesn't always activate

These are confirmed for Build v1.3.0 (August 2026).

Open VR Issues

The three open VR issues as of July 2026 are:

  1. Meta Quest 3 hand tracking on capture tool — gesture not registered reliably
  2. SteamVR session crash on long hunts — 2-hour sessions can cause OOM crash
  3. Meta Quest 2 reduced effects — foliage draw distance cut vs PC

These are confirmed for Build v1.4.0 (Q4 2026).

Mobile Capture Tool Overlay Workaround (iOS)

For iOS players affected by the capture tool overlay flicker bug, the temporary workaround is:

  1. Open the Roblox client Settings panel
  2. Navigate to Graphics > Renderer
  3. Switch from Auto to Vulkan
  4. Restart Dino Hunters

The Vulkan renderer does not trigger the flicker bug. The downside is slightly higher battery drain, but it is the only confirmed workaround until Build v1.3.0.

Best Practices for Mobile Hunters

TipReason
Use Battery Saver during long huntsPrevents thermal throttling
Calibrate aim assist before each sessionTouch aim drift varies per session
Prefer SMG over Sniper RifleTouch aim assist is calibrated for SMG range
Disable haptic feedback during Sniper ADSHaptic drift reduces aim precision
Use the Volcanic zone heat indicatorSaves stamina on long loops

Best Practices for VR Hunters

TipReason
Enable reduced motion sickness mode for the first 5 sessionsBuilds VR tolerance gradually
Calibrate play space before each sessionMeta Quest tracking drift
Use Sniper Rifle for Legendary huntsFirst-person ADS is most precise
Avoid hunts longer than 2 hoursSteamVR OOM crash risk
Disable hand tracking if you use controllersGesture conflicts with controller inputs

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the iOS capture tool overlay flicker affect iPad? Yes. The flicker is client-side, not device-specific. Both iPhone and iPad are affected.

Is the reduced motion sickness mode available on Meta Quest 2? Yes. The setting is shared across Quest 2 and Quest 3.

Will the SteamVR OOM crash affect short sessions? No. The crash only triggers after 2+ hours of continuous play. Sessions under 90 minutes are safe.
